The Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992 place a legal requirement on employers to provide appropriate facilities for their employees at the place of work.

Sanitary Waste Disposal:
In the case of water closets used by women, suitable means should be provided for the disposal of sanitary dressings.

Soap Dispensing:
Washing facilities must include soap or other means of cleaning.

Air Freshening and Fragrancing:
Suitable means should be taken to prevent odours from lingering in and from entering into other rooms.

Water Management Systems:
The law states that every pipe that supplies water to a flushing system or for flushing an urinal trough shall be fitted with either:

• flow shut-off device controlled by a time switch of shut-off valve
• other equally effective automatic device of method for regulating periods of water fill to the cistern or through

Warm Air Hand & Face Dryers: You are required by law to provide hand drying facilities in your washroom and the regulation states that washing facilities must include towels or other suitable means of drying.

The Environment

The Environmental Protection Act 1990 places a legal “Duty of Care” upon businesses and organisations to ensure that all waste in your premises is correctly managed right to the point of final disposal. Everyday millions of tampons, towels and panty liners are flushed down the toilet and over 60% of sewer blockages are attributed to the “disposable of Sanitary items”.
